“Follow your Heart”, Do we really do that?

I often hear this statement “Follow your Heart” from many people around. Often mentors, teachers and friends tell us to do this. We can read stories guiding people that they should do things according to what they feel is right.

But do we really do that?

Do we even spend a single day as per our own choice?

We go to school, as we are expected to go to school.

We take up a job, as we are expected to take one.

We marry, as we are expected to marry till some defined age or so.

What do we do with our choice?

AND In case you dare to actually “Follow your Heart”… Be ready to become a laughter element for the society.

This is why no one dares to “Follow their Heart”.

But what if Albert Einstien also decided not to be different? We would have lost a wonderful knowledge guru and would have been refrained by his great theories and philosophies.

And what if Sir Columbus had also decided to stop his craving for traveling? America would not have been discovered too.

These are instances from past when people were courageous enough to “follow their heart”.

It’s quite disappointing but the trust is that these days we do not “Follow our heart”. We are fearful of society and do not have courage to believe ourselves.

We need to understand that we all have a life of our own and we have a right to live it free.

“Follow your Heart” works only once you stick to your belief.

Be courageous enough to be yourself. Live Life on your terms.

FOLLOW YOUR HEART!

Does glamour makes your product popular?

It might look boring to a few of you for reading this short story which has nothing to do with. But the reason why I am putting it down here is I am still struggling to know where I was wrong.

Why glamour get more importance in the advertising world?

It was some 5 years ago I guess when I was struggling for a good job here and there. Each day was a new struggle in a new place of Delhi. It’s quite hard to manage especially in the hot humid atmosphere. Anyways, I managed to reach to some part of South Delhi from North to give my interview as a content writer. Luckily, I could clear the first round and then it was the second one where I was supposed to write on the “Important of girl/women in Advertising” (Not exactly this but something related).
I stated the honest opinion saying that “I personally don’t like advertisements showing up more of glamour and less of product value and importance and so on”. Probably this was like a criticism for the ad agency (of course I would not take its name) and I was not selected.  They called me in for a face to face and asked me to justify what I had written. Without any doubts, I said what I wrote and, honestly felt. The discussion went long where they kept on comment against my views and I stuck to my thoughts.

However, I lost it. They clearly mentioned that you are not from today’s society so you should first change your views and then look for a job in this industry.  That time, I felt shattered and started to question myself.

Today, I laugh.  With the same opinions I managed to survive here but is it really a fact that it’s the glamour only that makes your product sell?

I see many advertisements where girls have no role to play yet they are there. Is it because we live in a society full of perverts?

What Are We Running For?

I had always been dedicated to my work.

And so, most of the time I was made responsible for any new task that came in our office.

No doubts I handled everything perfectly well.

Until a new person joined claimed that she can do the entire task that I do, in comparatively lesser time.

This was not what I was expecting to happen.

All this made me so irritated that I decided to challenge her and challenge myself. I decided to quicken my speed and do things better than she tried to do.

Each day passing by, my speed improved. Yes, now even I could manage tasks in so much lesser time. I felt satisfied looking at my better and her average performance.

This went on for more than a year and I kept on succeeding over her.

After exactly 1 year, my company hired a new person similar to my profile.

And now he claimed that he can perform better than me.

This was again heights for me. I decided to give it back. And again start my race. But at the end of the day, when I reached back, I thought to myself “what is this that I am doing. Am I that perfect to succeed over
everyone? Can I beat this guy again? Of course I can but definitely I cannot be better than everyone.

Whatever pace I can ever reach in life, there will still be people around doing better than me, owning a better car, a better apartment and a better family.

Didn't I have all that?

Yes, I did.

I was just lacking satisfaction.

Success is in Satisfaction for what I have, what god has given me.

I smiled and said to myself, “I am happy for what I have and will always be. This rat race will never end but we might end up living soon. This sense of competition will keep om pushing me to the never ending struggle and would never let me live. I am not going to let that happen”.

The very next day, I went back to office and before we started working, I sat with the young lad and told him about my life and ask him about his. He was shocked yet happy.

Today, we are buddies.

I never told him but told myself that he might be best in everything even I am the best but in my own way and shall always be.

I decide to stay away from the rat race and keep performing for my own satisfaction and not for what people expect from me.
